Right then, that's it from this warm-up game where West Indies convincingly defeated Australia after posting a mammoth total. The preparations for the main league stage of the T20 World Cup further continue as the teams test out their strengths in the warm-up fixtures. You can switch tabs to keep an eye on the other warm-up games coming up next. Until then, cheers, and take care!

Earlier in the game, West Indies got the chance to bat first, and they didn't waste a moment! It turned into a six-hitting extravaganza. After being invited to bat, they got off to a flying start. Johnson Charles set the pace early on, and Nicholas Pooran quickly followed suit. Charles set the foundation before letting Pooran take charge, who went on to dominate the Australian bowlers with an impressive 75. After Pooran's dismissal, Rovman Powell stepped up to maintain the momentum and smashed a quickfire 52. Sherfane Rutherford then delivered a spectacular 47 off just 18 balls, ensuring West Indies reached an imposing total of 257. Adam Zampa picked up two wickets but was also taken to the cleaners, while Nathan Ellis finished his spell nicely. In the chase, Australia fought hard with limited resources at the helm. Josh Inglis and Tim David played crucial hands along with Matthew Wade but ultimately the Aussies fell short of the target in the end.

While defending a mammoth total, West Indies got an early breakthrough as Shamar Joseph outfoxed Warner with his pace. Alzarri Joseph dismissed Mitchell Marsh a couple of overs later, providing West Indies with an early advantage. Obed McCoy then removed Agar, who was looking dangerous. West Indies managed to pick up three wickets inside the mandatory Powerplay, but runs also came in thick and fast. The Windies bowlers managed to prevent boundaries during the middle phase, which paid off well. Gudakesh Motie broke the flourishing partnership by dismissing both Josh Inglis and Tim David at crucial intervals. Despite being expensive, Akeal Hosein managed to pick up one wicket, while Alzarri Joseph took two, putting the hosts firmly in control. Shamar Joseph also chipped in with a wicket of his own.

A total of 479 runs were scored in this warm-up fixture but ultimately West Indies had enough runs on the board and managed to defeat Australia by a convincing margin of 35 runs. With only 9 players at the helm and a long tail to follow, Australia was invited to chase down 258. David Warner didn't get off to a promising start and lost his wicket early. Ashton Agar joined him at the crease and was a surprise package, hitting some lusty blows before eventually perishing on 28. Mitchell Marsh couldn't contribute much and got out cheaply as well. Josh Inglis and Tim David then took charge and played aggressively. Both got off to blistering starts, effortlessly bludgeoning the ball and picking the bones out of the leather. They put up a good fight against the Windies bowlers and kept the runs coming. After a solid 63-run partnership, Tim David got out. Matthew Wade hung around for a few overs but got out soon after. Then, Josh Inglis, who was looking set, followed him back to the dugout. Nathan Ellis then showcased his strength with an impressive blistering cameo, making a strong case for himself in the backend with the bat, but it just wasn't enough to get across the line. Despite batting with limited resources, Australia fought till the end, putting up a good fight.

Commentary

Welcome back for Australia's reply. The two umpires have made their way out to the middle as have the players of West Indies. David Warner and Ashton Agar will open the innings for Australia. West Indies are starting with spin in the form of Akeal Hosein. Let's play...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Right then, Australia have a mountain to climb and they will have to make the most of the limited resources to get over the line here. As for West Indies, the batters have set the game up for them nicely and it is now up to the bowlers to back it up. Back in a bit for the chase.

As for Australia, their skipper Mitchell Marsh had limited bowling options to choose from, given that they are playing with only 9 players. They were put under the pump early as first Johnson Charles and then Nicholas Pooran took them apart. After Adam Zampa put an end to Pooran's onslaught, Australia were able to bring the scoring rate down to some extent in the middle phase. Zampa then went on to get rid of Charles before being taken to the cleaners in his final over. While Nathan Ellis was tough to get away in his third over, Josh Hazlewood could not back it up at his end which meant that the Aussies could not stop West Indies from crossing 250. Tim David and Nathan Ellis bowled well in patches for Australia on what was a tough day at the office for the bowling unit.

West Indies get the desired finishing kick and they end up with 257 on the board! After being put into bat, West Indies were off to a rollicking start. Johnson Charles made his intentions clear straight away, as did Nicholas Pooran. After setting the tone, Charles took the backseat in the partnership and watched Pooran unleash a real assault on the Aussie bowlers. The southpaw soon brought up a 16-ball fifty. After Pooran fell on 75, Rovman Powell took over and ensured that the West Indies innings did not lose steam. Sherfane Rutherford picked up where his skipper left off and produced an absolute carnage. His quickfire 47-run cameo of just 18 balls propelled West Indies to 257.

19.54

FOUR! Effortless and risk-free! Also, 250 up for West Indies! Too short and on off, sits up nicely for the left-hander. Sherfane Rutherford reads the length early, gets in position quickly and pulls it very fine over short fine leg for a boundary.

19.41

Above the knee-length full toss outside off, Shimron Hetmyer smokes it to the widish long off along the ground for a single.

19.31

Darts in a fuller-length delivery, very close to the body of the batter, Sherfane Rutherford is cramped up for room and inside edges onto the pads, and then to the pitch. A very, very expensive spell from Adam Zampa comes to an end. He concedes 62 off his quota of 4 overs with 2 wickets.

16.56

SIX! Beauty! Dishes out a googly outside off, right into the arc, Sherfane Rutherford steps his front foot ahead and lofts it inside out over the deep extra cover for a maximum. He has peppered the ropes with ease and at will.

We are all set to begin! The two openers for West Indies are Shai Hope and Johnson Charles. Tim David will be initiating the proceedings with the new ball. Here we go...

The skipper of the West Indies, Rovman Powell says that they wanted to bat first. Adds that they want to bat as a unit and will look to play the whole 20 overs. Shares that the preparation has been good.

Mitchell Marsh, the skipper of Australia says that they will bowl first. Informs that they will be playing with 9 players. Mentions that it is a good opportunity to play West Indies at home in front of the fans.

Australia - Adam Zampa, Ashton Agar, Cameron Green, David Warner, Glenn Maxwell, Josh Hazlewood, Josh Inglis, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade, Mitchell Marsh, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Ellis, Pat Cummins, Tim David, Travis Head.

West Indies - Brandon King, Johnson Charles, Shimron Hetmyer, Shai Hope, Nicholas Pooran, Sherfane Rutherford, Roston Chase, Andre Russell, Rovman Powell, Shamar Joseph, Romario Shepherd, Obed McCoy, Gudakesh Motie, Alzarri Joseph, Akeal Hosein.

TOSS - Australia have won the flip of the coin and they have opted to BOWL first.

Australia, on the other hand, have already played a warm-up match, defeating Namibia despite fielding support staff due to a short squad. David Warner’s explosive fifty was a highlight, and captain Mitchell Marsh made a successful return from injury. With Travis Head, who was exceptional in India recently, Cameron Green, Tim David, and Matthew Wade, their batting lineup is formidable. Pat Cummins, who guided Hyderabad to the Indian T20 League finals, will be key with both ball and bat. His leadership and experience are invaluable. Mitchell Starc, fresh off winning the Indian T20 League with Kolkata, was outstanding in the knockout stages, earning Man of the Match in the final. Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell have been somewhat inconsistent and will aim to find their form before the group stages begin. Ashton Agar and Adam Zampa will be their main spinners, and they are expected to thrive in these conditions. While the outcomes of these warm-up matches might not hold great significance, both teams will aim to be competitive and build momentum heading into the main tournament. The toss coming up in a bit.

Batters like Brandon King and Johnson Charles were in superb form for the West Indies during that series, while Nicholas Pooran, Andre Russell, and Shai Hope had solid seasons in the Indian T20 League but will be looking to eliminate any lingering rust. Interestingly, their spin attack appears particularly potent this time, with Gudakesh Motie and Akeal Hosein leading the charge, while Roston Chase and Romario Shepherd will be pivotal with their all-round skills. They need more consistency from their pace attack, with Alzarri Joseph and Shamar Joseph bringing fiery speed and Obed McCoy and Russell providing effective variations in these conditions.

Hello and a warm welcome, folks! The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is just around the corner, and teams are seizing the opportunity to fine-tune their strategies in the warm-up games. The hosts, the West Indies, are brimming with confidence after a clean sweep against South Africa in their recent T20I series and now face Australia in a warm-up match.
