That concludes the proceedings for this match. Yet another one-sided game and South Africa have bagged the series. They will be very pleased to gain this momentum ahead of the T20 World Cup. For Sri Lanka, the never-ending rebuilding phase continues. Their batting lacks the desired fire and it's proving to be a massive issue for them going into the mega event. There is one more game left in this series and it will be played on Tuesday, 14th September 2021. It will be a 7 pm local start (1.30 pm GMT) but you can join us in advance for the build-up. Cheers!

For his delightful display with the ball in hand, where he never let any Sri Lankan batter settle down, Tabraiz Shamsi has been named as the Player of the Match!

Sri Lanka will be very disappointed at the moment. They won a good toss on a pitch conducive for spin bowling. The Lankan batters showed better intent and the scorecard read 52/2 at the end of the Powerplay. It appeared that the hosts would come up with a total big enough to crush South Africa with their army of spinners but the Sri Lankan innings nosedived. They collapsed in a heap and got bundled out for just 103. The spinners did rule the roost in this match but they were from the African camp. Bjorn Fortuin, Aiden Markram, Tabraiz Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj made full use of the conditions and played a vital role in helping South Africa to an unsurpassable 2-0 lead in the series.

Easy peasy lemon squeezy! Yup, it's that easy for the Proteas. Their spinners did the bulk of the damage by restricting Sri Lanka to just 103 and then their openers provided them with a perfect start. Usually, a small chase proves to be tricky and with the spinners ruling the roost in favourable conditions, South Africa were also supposed to dance to the tunes of the Lankan spinners but nothing of that sort happened. Quinton de Kock's presence at the crease never allowed any pressure to build and it was an easy march towards the target for the touring team despite a brief break due to rain.

FOUR BYES! That does it. South Africa have crossed the line and they win the series too via byes. Praveen Jayawickrama serves this flatter and around middle and leg, skidding down, Quinton de Kock looks to reverse sweep but misses and the keeper is not able to stop the ball too as it races away to the fine leg fence. SOUTH AFRICA WIN BY 9 WICKETS AND CLINCH THE SERIES!

Loopy and outside off, de Kock plays it late and taps it down to short third man for a single.

13.42

Skidding down the leg side, de Kock goes back to work it away but it goes off the inner half to short fine leg. They take a couple.

13.20

Full and floated on middle, Markram gets forward and works it off his pads to mid-wicket.

On middle, it's tucked around the corner for a single at square leg.

12.42

A touch short in length on middle, de Kock gets back and works it in front of square leg for a couple of runs.

12.34

FOUR! What a lovely shot! Quinton de Kock brings up his fifty, his 10th in T20Is and first against Sri Lanka. He has been in some form for some time now. Just extending it forward. Fuller and around off, de Kock has enough space to free his arms as he rifles his drive through extra cover for a boundary.

12.21

Short again, on middle, Aiden moves back and punches it down to long on for a single.

12.10

Turning away from the batsman, around off, Markram goes back and pushes it to cover-point. The length was short and that allowed time for the batter.

10.50

SAFE! It has hit the bat first. A leg spinner, landing full around off and spinning away, Markram gets forward to defend but it takes the inner edge and strikes him on the boot. The bowler thinks it's boot first and appeals. The umpire stays unmoved. Wanindu Hasaranga convinces his skipper to take the DRS but there is nothing of any use for Sri Lanka in the replays.

10.41

Tossed up around leg, de Kock tries to flick but possibly gets a thin leading edge wide of first slip. They cross for a run as the bowler is busy appealing.

Commentary

Sri Lanka started well, despite losing Dinesh Chandimal in the second over. Kusal Perera and Bhanuka Rajapaksa started slow but kept the boundaries rolling after that as they started looking settled. Bhanuka too could not go on for longer as he departed to Shamsi and Perera and Dhananjaya de Silva looked to steady things, but this stand was cut short too and from a position of 59/2, they slipped to 86/6, losing batters like dominoes. After this, they still kept losing wickets regularly and folded for just 103. Just 4 batters crossed the double-digit mark, in terms of runs and that speaks volumes regarding their display.

This has been a wonderful bowling display from the Proteas and they have restricted the hosts to a tame total of 103. Sri Lanka have also equaled their lowest total in T20Is and they will be disappointed with how they have fared with the bat. They did start off well but just kept losing wickets and never stitched a partnership which helped them rack up runs quickly and they will feel like they are around 30-35 runs short of what they would have wanted.

18.1W

OUT! Trapped in front! The agony for the Sri Lankans is over. Maharaj delivers it flat and full on middle, going straight on after landing, Maheesh Theekshana tries to defend it with a straight bat but misses. The ball pings the pads, the appeal is made and the umpire agrees. Sri Lanka are bowled out for 103!

17.50

Loopy around middle and leg, Praveen tries to flick but misses. It goes off his pads to the leg side.

Who will bowl the penultimate over?

17.40

Short and wide outside off, Praveen opens the face of his blade but finds the point fielder again.

17.30

Shortish and close to off, skidding away, Praveen Jayawickrama guides it through the line but finds backward point.

17.20

Fuller one, around leg, the debutant defends it ahead of his front pad.

Praveen Jayawickrama is the last batter in.

17.1W

OUT! Caught and bowled! Wicket number 9 goes down and it's the big one of Charith Asalanka. Markram picks his third. Slower through the air, full and around off, Asalanka shapes up for a cover drive but it probably holds up from the surface. He is early into his shot and ends up chipping a simple return catch to the bowler.

Quicker and fuller on off, defended from the crease to the off side. Bjorn Fortuin is also done with his spell, 4-0-12-2. Amazing.

Aiden Markram to bowl out!

16.5W

OUT! Chameera is a goner despite taking the DRS. A smart piece of bowling from Bjorn Fortuin. He comes up with a flatter arm ball around off and it skids on after landing. Chameera is caught on the back foot as he attempts to defend. Misses the ball and is struck on the pads. They appeal and the finger is up. Dushmantha Chameera takes the DRS but it's of no use.  Chameera is plumb. Three reds on the Ball Tracker. Sri Lanka lose their 8th wicket and are in danger of getting bowled out within the 20 overs.

Praveen Jayawickrama arrives at Number 10!

16.41

Walks forward and works it in the gap on the leg side for a run.

16.30

Loopy and around leg, Asalanka is forward as he tries to flick. But the ball takes the leading edge and loops up in the air. It falls safely at short mid-wicket.

16.20

Turn and bounce from around off, Charith Asalanka goes back to cut but it spins back in and cramps him for room. The ball takes the gloves and raps him on the pads.

15.51

Fuller in length around off, Chameera drives it down to long off for a single.

15.40

Shout for an lbw! Sharp spin into the batsman, from around off, Dushmantha Chameera tries to defend but it beats the bat and pings him on the pads. The bowler is convinced as he appeals but nothing from the umpire. Shamsi gets no support from de Kock. Going down leg!

Will Bjorn Fortuin bowl out or will we see a bowling change?

15.3W

OUT! That's an absolute beauty. Shamsi gets his third. Floated one, full and landing outside off, Chamika Karunaratne presses forward to drive it through the line but it curls back in sharply to take a bit of an inside edge and rattles the stumps behind. The third umpire checks for the no ball, both for the front foot and the back leg, but Tabraiz Shamsi is fine on both counts.

Dushmantha Chameera comes into the middle!

15.21

Spinning away from the batsman after landing around off, Charith plays it late and taps it down to point for one. 100 up!

15.12

We are back!

Update 10.10 pm local (4.40 pm GMT) - Looks like we have a starting time as the game will resume at 10.20 pm local (4.50 pm GMT). We really shouldn't have any overs lost as the delay was not a long one.

Update 9.58 pm local (4.28 pm GMT) - Well, as expected, it was only a short burst as the rain has stopped. The covers seem to be coming off as well. If there is no more rain falling down from this point forward, we should be getting underway soon enough.

Right. We are done with all the pre-match formalities as the action is all set to begin. The South African players have already spread out on the field and the openers of Sri Lanka, Kusal Perera and Dinesh Chandimal make their way out too. Spin to begin the game as Bjorn Fortuin will roll his arm. Here we go...

Keshav Maharaj, the South African skipper, says that they wanted to bat first but this is a good wicket and hopes that they can restrict the Lankans to a low score. Informs that they have one change as Rassie van der Dussen comes in and David Miller misses out.

The Sri Lankan captain, Dasun Shanaka, says that batting first has an advantage and runs on the board always counts and that is the idea. Adds that they can do well in this game and they need to do better in the Powerplay. Informs that they have a couple of changes to their side.

PITCH REPORT - Farveez Maharoof says that the deck is pretty hard and it looks dry as well. Says that it will be tough for the batters when the ball gets old and is slightly used. Ends by saying that this is still a decent deck to bat on.

Sri Lanka (Playing XI) - Kusal Perera (In place of Avishka Fernando), Dinesh Chandimal (WK), Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dhananjaya de Silva, Charith Asalanka, Dasun Shanaka (C), Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Dushmantha Chameera, Praveen Jayawickrama (In place of Akila Dananjaya), Maheesh Theekshana.

TOSS - Up goes the coin and lands in the favor of Sri Lanka. They have elected to BAT first.

Hello and a warm welcome to the second T20I between Sri Lanka and South Africa. The first game between these two went the way of the Africans and they will head into this game with confidence on their side. They batted well and also bowled superbly and will look to replicate the same. The Lankans, on the other hand, will be on the back foot and will want to bounce back to winning ways as if they lose this clash, they will lose the series too. Let's hope that we have a close game of cricket. Toss and team news up in a bit.
